*keeping eye lids open with a toothpick*

I’ve always thought that phrase was funny…now there’s this harsh reality about it!  We are off to a exhausting start of a new school year.  It’s a huge change for the whole house really because we have both of the boys in school and I’m trudging away at my classes too.  As usual we have the chaotic schedule.  I’m not sure what we will do when our lives aren’t a crazy scheduled mess but we are years away from that…maybe when the boys have grown up (which is definitely something I dare not think about because they’ll stay “little”, right?).

Braysen is officially a Kindergartner and is in all day!  Merrick started preschool 3′s. Tues/Thurs am’s.  I have more credit hours this semester and more work hours.  What was I thinking?  Plus, there’s running all of us to/from places and we haven’t started the extra-curricular sports stuff yet.  I’m waiting to schedule the swim lessons/karate type stuff until October so we can get our bearings with the current schedule first!

I thought it’d be funny to put a picture of our spreadsheet that I make up every semester and give to everyone involved in the chaos (in-laws, daycare, work and of course it hangs on the fridge).  We also keep a Google calendar organized with various lovely color coordinated calendars.  I’m not sure what we’d do without Google calendar!  They are blurred out a bit because I don’t think people need to exactly see what our schedule looks like ..privacy issue type of thing but you get the general idea! Chaos I tell ya!

I’m doing lots of posts right now instead of giant ones..or trying to separate out them a bit!

School days…

School oh school, how I have missed thee…ok, not really!  Time for another random update on the good ol’ blog!  I update facebook, randomly update twitter and just haven’t had the time to do much of anything else on the computer.  So, while Patrick is listening to the President’s speech, I’ll do an update..oh joy!

Last week Fall semester started back up for me.  I’m muddling through..and by muddling..I mean seriously dragging myself through the motions of filling some pre-reqs.  Some of my pre-req’s. I’ve had in the past but aged out (5+ years and you have to retake any math/science).  I am in a 7:30 am Stats class, miserable time but great professor so far.  I’m good at math, but problem solving math is a whole other story.  Guess, I’ll just pray and suffer through!  I have a Developmental Psych. course that is entirely full of Pre-Nursing students so I’m in good company.  So far so good though!  I did get some amusement by a guy snoring in my Stats class today and some of us girls in the back of the class got a good giggle when he started to talk in his sleep too.

Braysen also had his 1st day of preschool on Tuesday.  It was a parent-child day and to say it went rough is putting it midly.  I was fine, Patrick was fine but Braysen was out of sorts.  I think a lot of it had to do with having us there (specifically me, the comforting one hehe), having other parents there and just not being in his usual routine.  I am hoping that next week goes a LOT smoother.  He’s in the preschool on my campus so it is nice and convenient and if he does have problems, I’m close at least.

So, with Fall off to a busy start I decided to complicate it even more!  We are having a BBQ this Saturday.  What started out as a small, get our friends together BBQ has turned into something much larger.  Not that I’m complaining but oh what a crowd we’ll have.  It’s kind of our end of summer bash to celebrate the new deck & hard work we’ve done in our yard.

I also signed up Braysen for swim lessons so he’ll be starting those on the 21st in the evenings.  I’ll just bring my books to the pool and study.  Of course everyone keeps asking me why I don’t teach him myself, with my past lifeguard/swim instructor background.  Truth is, he’ll do much better with someone other than me and with other kids in his class.  I hope he soon becomes Mr. Guppyman like he was at 6 months because his fascination of water has become almost a fear of in the last year..dunno what happened to my little guppy but hopefully this fixes it!

Manic Mondays?

Mondays seem to be my “list day”.   I end up with post-it notes to myself of things I should accomplish for the week or things that need done.  I put these little notes here, there and everywhere.

My post-it process:

  1. Write notes
  2. Toss notes into various places in my purse, notebook (for misc. notes when I’m out and about), stick them to my Iphone, put them in my wallet, put them in the outer pocket of my purse, attach them to various papers I have already in my purse.
  3. Lastly, I take them home…only to forget them.

A week or so goes by before the notes have overrun my purse.  I don’t want to weed through them all so I just toss them away.  Yep, it’s a good process I must say so myself!

So, I tried the whole To Do list thing on my I-phone.  It’s just not working for me or maybe I just don’t have the write app.

So like every Monday I’m sitting here looking at the calendar and I realize that I need to stop trying to make plans without glancing at the calendar because it’s making life a little complicated.  We schedule things and then the light bulb switches back on my head and I realize that we already have something that day.  OOPS!

Monday ~ easy peasy day, may make a run to the nursery to look at flowers.  (another post coming from this ..why is that my husband and I never argue but for some reason we argued part of the way home from a nursery yesterday about toxic vs. non-toxic plants in our backyard…seriously??)   Get the Evite out for our BBQ

Tuesday ~ Water Aerobics night (no more flaking, my friend “Craigslist-Extraordinaire” and I need to get back on schedule!)

Wednesday ~ easy peasy day

Thursday ~ Water Aerobics night with “Craigslist-Extraordinaire”again

Friday ~ 2:45 hair appt.   That evening we are heading off to the Spirit Mountain Casino for a little B&B (Bingo and Buffet) with another couple from our neighborhood, “Lady-with-many-kids” and “Lady’s-Geek” (I am a Casino Bingo Virgin so that will be interesting!)

Saturday ~  Wine party at Anthony Dell as part of our wine club membership.  Heading there with our neighbors next door, “Jack-of-all-trades” and his lovely wife “Lady-who-can-cook-anything.”

On a side note, you are probably wondering where all these whack names are coming from.  Well, because I want to be silly of course! No really, I just don’t want to post their real names and instead of just calling them “A” or “B” I decided to nick them based off personality or feats or brilliance!

Characters from my real life:

*I apologize to those that are now characters, I tried to give you nice names*

Craigslist-Extraordinaire:  A good friend/neighbor that I got to know more last year when I started doing water aerobics and am so thankful that we had a chance to get to know each other better!  To say she is the queen of craigslist is an understatement!

Lady-with-many-kids:  She is not only the boys daycare provider but a mom of 7 kiddos herself.  So she has a lot of kids, both her own and ones she provides excellent care for!

Lady’s-geek:  This is Lady-with-many-kids’s husband.  He is very similar to my lovely husband.  They are both computer geeks and maybe that’s why we find them chatting about things we don’t quite understand.

Jack-of-all-trades:  Our next door neighbor.  He’s a friend, part of the family in many ways and is one of the nicest guy you’ll ever met.  BUT he is also the mastermind behind our deck project plans, our garage shelving, the trim around the boys chalkboard and many other projects he’s helped us on!

Lady-who-can-cook-anything:  This is the wife of Jack-of-all-trades but really to say she is just the wife of him is silly because they compliment each other!  Again, one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.  She’s part of the family in our eyes.  She loves to entertain and you’ll find her making the most amazing 5, 7+ course meals when you come over for one of their dinners/parties.  (Jack-of-all-trades also cooks alongside her though too and can definitely hold his own on the kitchen!)
