February, love is in the air?
If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?” ~Unknown
I saw this quote and it made me laugh. How appropriate for the upcoming Valentines day? So, with that I felt the need to do an update.
February is off to a rip roaring start. Spring semester for classes started Feb. 8 and I’m back at the 7:30 Mon/Wed. grind. So far so good but hey it’s only the first week. Ask me in a few weeks when I have my first exams.
Braysen is still enjoying his preschool. I had this big predicament of what to do about next years enrollment. We are hoping to have him at a local catholic school for all day kindergarten in 2 years (and continue elementary there) but there’s somewhat of a worry that I won’t be able to get him a spot. If I switched him to the preschool there for next year I could almost guarantee his spot as priority goes to current students basically. So, my dilemma was whether I enroll him in a new preschool next year to try and get him a spot or take the risk and keep him at his current. In the end, after much thoughts & stress, we are keeping him at his current school. We have been more than happy with his preschool. I can’t say enough good things about his school.
He had his first Valentines Day party yesterday. They made heart valentines last week and then mailed them to our houses this week. He was so excited to have us open his valentine that he made! Then they had decorated bags for the kids to drop valentines in. He wanted Toy Story valentines and he helped a little bit with getting them ready but was disgruntled that he couldn’t write his own name on them after he did a few B’s. He played with his bag of valentines most of the afternoon yesterday, taking them in and out of the envelopes, asking me who gave him which ones. I got him a little something for valentines too but he’ll get that this weekend.
We also have him in swimming lessons still. We are on our 3rd session and I signed up for the 4th this past week that will take him through March. I’m going to keep him going through the Spring then switch him to some outdoor camps & stuff for the summer since we have a pool to take him to in our neighborhood. We’ll get his swimming back going in the fall again.
It seems to make more sense to have him in swim lessons during the winter while it’s rainy and then in the summer to actually get him outside for sports and stuff. It also seems really weird to me not to do swim lessons in the summer with my kids being that I spent every summer teaching swim lessons but here in Oregon outdoor pools are not that common in the smaller towns, like ours.
Thankfully we have a neighborhood pool but we’ll see how crowded that gets as our neighborhood has grown now.
The little guy is turning into quite the fish! He’s doing his big arms to the teacher, gliding out to her with face down and he can float on his back. We’ve moved up to the lvl. 2 class but the 2 to 3 jump is a big one. I’m so proud of him and he has such a great time there. I just can’t wait to get Merrick in there next year. I’ll probably start him at 2 1/2 if he’s ready instead of waiting until 3.
Merrick is my crazy crash test kid who really never gives us a break. If you look away, he’s probably climbing up on counters, pushing chairs across the kitchen to turn on the sink or climbing the pantry shelves to get potatoes and various other things. He can pretty much get into anything so nothing is safe!
He’s starting to sleep better but still wakes up probably 2-3x a night. He wakes up consistently at 11, which drives me nuts since I’m usually just falling asleep, just going to bed or soon to be studying I bet at that time of nite! There’s such a huge difference in sleeping habits with him and Braysen. Braysen was such a great sleeper and here Merrick is just a mess of one. I keep telling myself it will pass, it’s just a stage and then we’ll be having to wake him up for school just like we do Braysen.
Oh and Merrick is a LEFTY! Yes, we are pretty sure he’s a left handed kiddo. I’m a lefty so part of me thinks this is so cool. On the flip side, he’ll be all bass ackwards too when it comes to figuring out whether he bats right or left, dribbles right or left, cuts right or left and all that. He eats, draws and throws left currently though. I know I’m a bit of a freak when it comes to using my left vs. right in certain things.
On the news of Patrick, he’s been slaving night and day basically on designing/engineering a software program from the ground up for my parents company. It’s pretty amazing and all web based using Silverlight but man is he consumed. It’ll be great for my parents to have such an amazing program to help them out but it’ll be nice to get my husband back haha.
Btw~ I have like 4 blog posts stuck in my drafts. I just can never seem to finish them so yay for finishing one today!
