2 cm dilated
So, on Tuesday I had the start of my weekly appointments with my midwife. We decided to have her check me to see if some of the contractions I’ve had on/off are doing any progress. Well, sure enough I’m at least 2cm dilated. It wasn’t the most pleasant thing to go through (the exam process that is) but I’m glad to know that there is progress there from the uncomfortable feelings I’ve been having! For the last few days I’ve felt worse, crampy, uncomfy and overall having problems moving. I know part is the exam and part of it is the stage of pregnancy I’m in. My “official” due date is of course May 1st but anytime here on forward is a-ok as far as she’s concerned and we really don’t think I’ll make it to May 1st anyhow but we’ll see.

I can barely walk across campus to my building now and by the time I get there I’m either contracting or just in horrible pain. I’m having a harder time sitting at my desk w/o contractions or just pain in my back or all over. Every day that I work though is one day less that I won’t have to take my leave from so I’m just trying to stick this out.
We are supposed to go to Ikea tomorrow with our neighbors but we all knew we’d have to revisit the issue as it got closer to see if I could handle the trip. I’m starting to think the trip – about a 1 ½ hr. drive then a long day of walking, is not the best idea for someone in early stages of progressing for labor. I need stuff from there so I’m not sure at this point whether I should just grin and bear it, hope that nothing happens while I’m on that side of town. Everyone reminds me that all that walking may help bring me closer to seeing the little man, which would be fine if I knew I was closer to my neck of the woods and hospital! I also have stuff I need to get both at Target and would like to head into Hillsboro (there’s a Target there too) for Mimi Maternity for some nursing stuff. So much to do and now is definitely coming down to the wire it feels like. I did get some of my orders in the mail this week so that was a relief to have those checked off the list! My neighbors are throwing me a shower next Tuesday (which I told them they did NOT need to do, especially since this is my 2nd boy but they told me whatever). I am kind of excited to be honest about it because I never had a shower with Braysen and was pretty bummed out about that. Sometimes you feel like you just miss out when those things happen, like no bridal shower or bachelorette party either before I got married. So, it’s kind of a warm fuzzy feeling to get together with friends to celebrate little Merrick.
Patrick won another award at GE – “Healthcare Hero” or something along those lines for his hard work! I’m very proud of my hubby and know he works hard for them. He works 2-3 days a week from home, which helps me out a LOT, but during those days they get like 12 hour+++ days sometimes out of him because he doesn’t have the commute time and is logged in at 6:30/7:00 am until the emails / messages stop in the evening. They gave him a nice gift of $$ to be used on gift cards at lots of locations so he got me a gift card to use at Target for $100, a gift card to use at Mimi Maternity for my nursing stuff for $100 and then we applied the rest to amazon.com. That way, we can buy all sorts of things with it or can request more Target gift cards through Amazon. (We can always use!). Patrick did order a new PS3 controller, some speaker stands for his theatre system back speakers that we didn’t have hooked up yet and we ordered some custom fit floor mats for the new car so we don’t get it too dirty! I told him it was his reward so I wanted to make sure he splurged on himself some and didn’t just give it up to the rest of us (braysen, merrick & I hehe). His 30th birthday is coming up too and hopefully the baby won’t steal some of that spotlight for him! (I won’t let that completely happen of course! and am plotting to make sure he has a good one still!).
We had Braysen’s 2nd birthday party last Saturday and it was small but fun. We kept it to just friends/neighbors and Patrick’s parents. I’ll get pics of that eventually up.
Well, I’m going to continue working my morning away ..or at least until I feel like I cannot sit here anymore and the contractions drive me out to my car and home early like yesterday. *sighs*
