I started my new job this Monday and WOW is all I have to say. I’m a little overwhelmed but it’s such a good thing. I go home and feel so excited about what i’ve done during the day even though it seems over my head at times. I got a call last Friday saying to not head to the Carson City office but I needed to be in Reno at the UNR - Business Building - School of Social Work at 8:45. Of course this set some nerves in place as I have never been on that campus and rarely have to drive around much in Reno. Off I went to UNR’s website to get a campus map and luckily i’m pretty good with getting around on a campus (imagine that! - cu was much bigger then unr) I did call her on the way to find out where I should be parking and was told to park in a certain garage (which later I found out was the wrong one) and i’d get a parking permit once I got up to the office. It was an interesting day full of sitting through meetings and interviewing with her and other State / University employees. I got to administer the technical skills test and modify them so they would be fitting for the job description they were interviewing so that was a bit fun. I didn’t get home until 6:30 but all in all it was a great day! I had to be back in Reno today for another meeting at the Washoe County Child Welfare Services building which was another fun one finding and then I had to pay metered parking only to get a $30 ticket for Patrick’s tags being expired (he forgot about renewing them *sigh*)
At lunch we left the meeting to head into Carson and finally see where i’d be at in the office and start getting settled in. I have my own office, although a bit smaller then my last but it has a nice window and is painted in this green spongy paint (some don’t like it but I think it’s funky and fun). I spent some time boxing up things for other people that used it and it’s still well a mess of books and papers that we aren’t sure which I can remove or where to put yet but i’m sure soon. I can’t wait to bring some of my own things in
I was walked around to the other “cottages” on campus as they call it and introduced to everyone but for the life of me I can’t remember names but those in my building really (which is probably the most important). I got a few projects to work on while my boss took off for the afternoon to the doctor. This phone book binder she handed me from another person in the office to duplicate is insanely huge. It’s a 5′ binder and completely full of phone numbers I need to have access too. Just a bit overwhelming I must say.
Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. It’s such a different change from my last place and I love my boss. It’s nice to be acknowledged already for doing some good things like helping with the interviewing technical tests yesterday. I know from being introduced around and the comments like “oh, you’re working for so and so, she’ll keep you VERY busy” or “you aren’t scared away yet?” etc. I was warned though that this is a fast paced high pressure at times job and it’s really a hectic time of year as they say to come on board in a sense due to the legislative session starting soon.
Life otherwise is dandy I guess ~ found out Ven’s boss’s wife is pregnant and i’m happy for them but it makes me sad about myself at times of course. We are heading to Napa the 25th and found out that my mom, step-dad and step-brother all will probably be there that weekend also as they are going on a Spring Break trip and wanted to see Napa. I think we’ll be going out to dinner with them that Saturday nite and i’m so excited to see my mom again!!!
I go in March 29th for my lovely highlights and eyebrow waxing..god do I need a haircut and dunno wtf i’m going to do with it yet because it seems like everytime I go in I have a lot of length again and want to make it fun and easy again. /shrugs
Btw guys royally are a pain in the arse sometimes (good and bad at times)- they are damn good at pushing buttons!
Lastly -
I went shopping last weekend with Patrick to get my Xmas present bought. I was supposed to be getting a Louis Vuitton purse for my present but Patrick’s deal fell through and they gave him his check back
(it was a legit thing as his boss’s wife has like 3 of them now hehe, just couldn’t get the one I wanted
He also bought himself a new LCD monitor so he treated me to a clothes shopping trip for my new job.
So my spoils~
Casual Corner - yes I feel old and business like shopping there but damn they have good work stuff and really cute actually.
~new suit: Brown pant suit (good for all seasons) VERY cute
~new black skirt that has the cutest bottom hemline
~new camisole to wear under my shirts and suit
~new blouses - different colors, some stripes and a cute black knit top
andddddd my oh so cute Coach Purse - I wanted a black one that was classic since this was my first nice purse ( I still think it’s kinda silly to spend this much money on a purse but it was my xmas present)
I wish it showed a better picture and my camera batteries are charging! You can’t see the cute rings on its handle but really it’s cute and i’ll take my own cheesy picture soon!
