mind drifting….away…..

Monday, July 19th, 2004

How am I supposed to get any work done today when all I can think about is leaving tomorrow? I’m finally getting excited. This whole time people keep asking me if i’m nervous, excited etc. and honestly i’ve been just a grump replying with “I just want this over”. Now that I’m getting ready to leave things are getting a little more exciting but at the same time it’s going to be a crazy crazy week.

I would NEVER recommend having a wedding in another state :) Especially when 2 of your families are arriving from out of town, along with many guests. It just has complicated the crap out of this wedding and has driven me insane. In the end, i’m sure everything will come together.

Only have a few things left on my list to do:

Print out honeymoon/travel/car rental misc. info

Fax Beo’s to the lodge with changes

Call tux shop for hours (for parents)

Call DJ to confirm (since he hasn’t wanted to answer my email)

Buy some powerbars and snacks for the trip. (already packed)

Work on Vows / write out parents thank you cards.

:) Today is going to be a LONGGGGG day i’m afraid.

5 days left…

..until the wedding and only 2 days until we fly off to Colorado. I’m to the point where I have so many last minute things to do. It’s the little things that always take the most time. Patrick’s parents were in town this weekend bringing down furniture for the house on the way to Colorado. It was a nice visit with them before all the chaos. Went out to Cattleman’s for Steak last night, sooo yummy! We took them over to see our house progress also and to our suprise we have insulation! That means we’ll have our drywall in soon…just not sure how they expect our house to be complete by August 13th but we’ll see I guess when we get back.

I bought my cross necklace at Helzberg’s to wear with my dress. It’s so pretty and just what I was looking for. I figure since i’m not getting married in the Catholic church, i’d wear a cross to still represent some of my faith.

We’ve been getting some cool things for our new house and this one statue thing of a bride and groom is so amazing from his parents. It’ll look great in our new hutch.

So, today I have a nice little list of things to do and tomorrow I think i’ll be working only 1/2 a day to get the last minute stuff done and organized. I’m sending a box or so with his parents full of my little cameras for the tables, my toasting flutes, cake serving set, bridesmaid jewelry and m&m little containers. This saves me from overnighting it to my mom or worrying about carrying it on the plane. Also, my mom found someone to press my gown for me and then my aunt and step-mom are going to do my bustle for me while i’m there since I have been debating on whether I wanted to do something simple just so i’m not walking on the dress all night. I really don’t have that long of a train anyhow but still.

To do:

1-get off the computer? LOL

ok seriously …

-finish up details on vendor information to give to day of coordinator (mom’s friend)

-go to Michael’s and buy stuff for table chart, work on chart (already have seating taken care of thankfully, just need to type up the names)

-print out all honeymoon info and travel info - car rental, flights, hotels - put in folder with cruise tickets and passports

-print up list for each parent of what checks to make out and to which vendor

-make envelopes for vendors - with checks for tips & include parents payments later)

-print out directions to tux shop, email mom & dad

-call rain to find out when she is arriving on tues.

-fax revised beo to aspen lodge with table arrangement

-go buy flip flops for patrick and misc other cruise things

-laundry & pack

all I can think of right now :) it helps to write this all out tho!

Latest news headings:
4 p.m. update: Carson-area fire nears 10,000 acres; 395 closed”
-Reports of houses involved in the Lakeview area
-Fire has entered Timberline area
-Sheriff’s units ordered to leave Timberline
-Highway 395 closed
-Residents living on Lakeview and Timberline evacuated
-Record number of hand crews ordered to fight fire
-26 aircraft fighting fire, 2 military choppers on the way

I can’t even tell you how scary this is honestly.   I left
for work this morning thinking it didn’t look so bad.  I went to
Sushi with my project mgr and an ex co-worker and as we were driving
you could see the charred black mountains next to the city.  It
was really a wake up to how close this has been burning.  As we
were driving back from lunch we noticed the wind had switched and
started blowing it back North.  As the day has gone on, it has
moved back down the hills into housing areas.  They just closed
the highway between Carson City and Reno, re-routing traffic out to
Virgina City.   The lady I work with just left to go sit in
the hours of traffic getting back to her house in Reno.

It seems like everyone knows people that have houses burnt down.
As few as they are reporting it’s wild to hear.  My eye doctors
house was burnt down. I just found out that 10 minutes ago.  One
of our rivals owners house was burnt down.  The custom built house
we’ve had our techs working on is in danger and the area is
evacuated.

I hate fires, I really just hate them.  :(
